DESCRIPTION: \nWe gather each Sunday at 11:00 am for worship by singing hym
ns\, hearing readings from the bible\, praying together and a celebration
of Holy Communion. Communion is the spiritual bread our bodies need to liv
 e. All are invited to join us at the Lord's table to be fed by his heavenl
y food\, There are no strangers in God’s house\, and if you choose to wors
hip with us\, we would be honored by your presence.\n \nIntroduction to to
days service.\nToday the prophet Amos calls for justice to roll down like
waters. Paul urges us to encourage one another with the promised coming of
the Lord. Jesus tells the parable of the wise and foolish bridesmaids. Su
rrounded by the faithful of every time and place\, we celebrate Christ’s c
oming in our midst in the word of life and the feast of victory—the marria
ge feast of the Lamb.\n \nPrayer of the Day\nO God of justice and love\, y
ou illumine our way through life with the words of your Son. Give us the l
ight we need\, and awaken us to the needs of others\, through Jesus Christ
\, our Savior and Lord.\nAmen.\nFirst Reading: Amos 5:18-24\nIn the days o
f Amos\, people thought that the day of the LORD would be a time of great
victory\, but Amos announced that it would be a day of darkness\, not ligh
 t. He said liturgy is no substitute for obedience. The LORD demands justic
e and righteousness in the community.\nPsalm: 70\nYou are my helper and my
  deliverer\; O Lord\, do not tarry. (Ps. 70:5)\n \nSecond Reading:  1 Thes
salonians 4:13-18\nSome of the Thessalonians are worried that dead Christi
ans will be excluded from the resurrection to eternal life when Christ com
es again. Paul reassures them with the word of hope that all Christians\,
living or dead\, will be raised into everlasting life with Christ.\n \nGos
pel:  Matthew 25:1-13\nJesus tells a parable about his own second coming\,
emphasizing the need for readiness at all times. [Jesus said to the disci
ples:]\n1  “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten young women
took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.\n2  Five of them were fo
olish\, and five were wise.\n3  When the foolish took their lamps\, they t
ook no oil with them\,\n4  but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamp
s.\n5  As the bridegroom was delayed\, all of them became drowsy and slept
.\n6  But at midnight there was a shout\, ‘Look! Here is the bridegroom! C
ome out to meet him.’\n7  Then all those young women got up and trimmed th
eir lamps.\n8  The foolish said to the wise\, ‘Give us some of your oil\,
for our lamps are going out.’\n9  But the wise replied\, ‘No! there will n
ot be enough for you and for us\; you had better go to the dealers and buy
some for yourselves.’ \\n10  And while they went to buy it\, the bridegro
om came\, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet\
, and the door was shut.\n11  Later the other young women came also\, sayi
 ng\, ‘Lord\, lord\, open to us.’\n12  But he replied\, ‘Truly I tell you\,
I do not know you.’\n13  Keep awake\, therefore\, for you know neither th
e day nor the hour.”\n \nAfter the Sermon\, Holy Communion will be offered
. Come as you are\, the gift of the Table of the Lord has been prepared as
Jesus has requested and now we are invited to the meal. Come to the table
like Peter\, with more enthusiasm than resolve and like James and John\,
disappointed and the priorities of God’s reign. Come to the table like Mar
tha\, hosting and leading with confidence like Mary\, full of love and gri
ef. Come to the table like Judas\, disillusioned and rebellious and like M
ary Magdalene\, faithful till the end. Come to the table\, because it is G
od who invites us and it’s God’s will that those who want to should meet G
od here.\nBlessing for the day (Our blessing is an adaptation of a Francis
can Prayer)\nMay God bless us with discomfort at a Easy answers\, half tru
ths and superficial leaderships so that we may live out God’s will deep in
our heartland in our world.\nMay god bless with anger at injustice\, oppr
ession and exploration and the environments that we may work for justice\,
freedom and peace.\nMay God bless us with tears to shed for those who suf
fer from pain\, rejection\, hunger and war so that we may reach out with h
ands and hearts to help them\, walk with them and turn their pain into hop
e and joy.\nAnd may God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that w
e can make a difference in this world\, so that we can do what others clai
m cannot be done. To bring justice\, peace\, hope and love to all children
\, the poor and all others in any need.\nGod be your comfort\, your streng
th\;\nGod be your hope and support\;\nGod be your light and your way\; and
the blessing of God Creator\, Redeemer and Giver of Life\, remain with yo
 u now and forever. https://www.messiahofthemountains.org/events/event/707-
